United Concordia Dental's Toys for Treats Program

In 2016, more than 30 dental offices nationwide participated in our Toys for TreatsSM program, a United Concordia initiative that encourages children to trade in their Halloween candy for a gift card.

After piloting the program in central Pennsylvania in 2015 and expanding nationwide in 2016, the program has been extremely well received by dental offices and parents.

"While chocolate, candy and other sugary treats are acceptable in moderation and with good oral hygiene, Halloween is a time of year when kids and parents alike indulge on sweets that can damage tooth enamel," said Quinn Dufurrena, D.D.S., J.D., chief dental officer at United Concordia. "Our goal with the Toys for TreatsSM program is to reduce the amount of candy children consume, while giving them a chance to learn that healthy choices can lead to better rewards."

Check out some of the positive comments received from offices in 2016:

  • "Great idea. Our parents loved it!" – Dr. Thomas Cox, Virginia Beach, VA
  • "We appreciated the offer of this program and so did the children that received it. Our candy went to troops overseas." – Dr. Mark Raver, Shiremanstown, PA
  • "Can't wait for next year!" – Dr. Philip Stein, Philadelphia, PA

Dental offices who participate in a United Concordia® Dental network are eligible. On a first-come, first-served basis, those offices who wish to participate in the program will receive:

  • Flyer advertising the program
  • $10 gift cards to distribute to children who donate their candy
  • Comment cards for the dental office and parents of the donating children to return to us

Information on how to participate in the Toys for TreatsSM program will be added in early August so please check back with us then.
